What is Reiki Healing?
Pronounced “ray-key”, Reiki means ‘universal life force energy’ in Japanese and is a system of natural healing founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th Century.
Although it is not a replacement for traditional medication or treatments, this gentle healing technique is a non-invasive complementary therapy that can be used alongside other more orthodox or complementary practices, or as a stand-alone treatment.
Please note: patients are advised to see a doctor if they are concerned about their symptoms and a Reiki practitioner will not diagnose a health problem or predict any specific outcome from Reiki treatment.
Reiki essentially works by channelling the life force energy into the client either by touch, hands-off or distance healing.
A Reiki Treatment
Reiki essentially works by channelling the life force energy into the client either by touch, hands-off or distance healing.
A Reiki treatment is safe for all age groups, including babies and children, pregnant ladies, the elderly and animals, and is given to a recipient either laying down or sitting comfortably, and they will remain fully clothed.
The practitioner will place their hands in a sequence of non-intrusive positions either on or near the body. The treatment will cover the whole body and lasts for approximately 45 minutes, depending on the recipient’s needs.

What are the benefits of Reiki?
Reiki is a soothing and safe treatment that promotes relaxation and re-balance of the body, activating the natural healing processes within the patient to restore physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. As well as providing some relief to physical pain and ailments, Reiki can be of great benefit to those seeking comfort during stressful and difficult times as it brings peace and harmony on all levels.
Reiki can help us cope with the challenges of life, bringing comfort, acceptance, and a more positive outlook. It also encourages positive choices and supports changing negative patterns of thinking and habits in areas such as diet and addiction and can bring relief to sleep problems and insomnia.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?
Reiki provides a feeling of deep relaxation, calm and well-being to many people.
Although no two people are the same, some people feel heat coming from the practitioner’s hands or a tingling sensation, whilst others experience an emotional response. These responses indicate that shifts are taking place, toxins are being released and that balance is being restored.
Some people may not feel anything at all, and of course this is okay too as the Reiki will still work whether the energy is felt, or not. Reiki brings clarity of thought, with some patients feeling that a current situation is suddenly easier to cope with or experiencing a ‘light bulb’ moment. Overall, Reiki is always a positive experience to be enjoyed, bringing gentle healing, rejuvenation, and relaxation.

How much Reiki do I need?
Again, we are all different and how much Reiki you need will depend on each individual person and what is happening within their body. One session may be enough, or you may benefit from a series of treatments.
Those with long standing emotional issues or physical ailments will probably take longer to heal, although recovery can happen quickly.
If you feel that the Reiki is benefiting you and that positive changes are taking place, then continuing treatment is probably a good idea – of course this is something we can discuss when you come for a treatment and is ultimately your choice. I would advise having a Reiki treatment periodically to maintain balance once this has been restored.
